
Summer is coming to an end, and for some of us that means it’s time to get out of town! Before you hit the road, here are a few pointers to keep your home safe and sound so you can enjoy your time away…

Contact the alarm company and the local police if you are gone for an extended period of time
- Put newspaper delivery on hold for the dates you will be gone
- Tell a trusted neighbor your will be gone and ask them to keep an eye on your home *Give them a good number to reach you
- Turn up the thermostat to 80 degrees in the summer and down to 65 degrees in the winter
- Set interior lights on a timer
- Unplug all computers/sensitive electrical appliances in case of a power surge
- Lock all windows and doors *Do not leave a hidden house key outside of the home
- Clean refrigerator of all perishable foods *Take out all garbage
- Arrange to have the lawn mowed while you are gone
- Store jewelry and other valuables in a safe place
